The European Investment Fund supports European small and medium-sized enterprises
The idea behind is to help entrepreneurs by facilitating their access to financing through a wide range of selected financial intermediaries. For this purpose, the European Investement Fund (EIF) has access to a wide range of instruments that focus on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) but that also promote European objectives in areas like employment, growth, innovation, research and development and entrepreneurship.
The EIF creates and supports debt financial instruments, which specifically target SMEs. They provide specific financial solutions to support EU countries to develop their capital markets and to foster their regional lending sector. The main goal is to detect market failures and support SMEs in less developed regions across the EU. An additional goal is to use their experience and resources and implement financial instruments that are able to affect the local market and promote regional business development. To reach these goals, the EIF operates on regional development and EU cohesion policy through country and sector -specific initiatives and partnerships.
Based on the experience acquired through its involvement in the management of financial engineered instruments and through strategic partnerships, the EIF expanded its regional development activity and intensify partnerships under the period 2014-2020.
